The Lady Gray cast and crew warm up at Starbucks after a freezing, early morning alley scene shoot. My lens was still foggy from shooting outside in the snow.

Today's post is far too late for most people to have seen it. Today's been pretty busy, so most of my work was delayed severely. But enough about that.

We are proud to announce that the final video slideshow is up online! Visit LadyGray.net – it’s right on the home page (or you can click “Video Slideshow” on the top right). Make sure you register for an account on the website there if you want some updates when further materials are released.

We’re very excited to finally be able to show everyone the completed images. Let us know what you think, either here or there!

Our 1930's Detective lookin' suspicious in the alley.

Fooled you. I’ve been hard at work editing these photographs, and I just ordered the canvases for gallery showings. The photo above is one of them – our Detective is on one of the complimentary pieces – wait until you see the flagship canvas, it’s going to be beautiful.

This is just a quick post late tonight to announce that yes, work is still in progress and no, the project hasn’t been inexplicably abandoned. Be patient!

Kids these days.

The Mob Boss - One of 12 images released early.

I am quite pleased to announce that I have posted the first 12 of the photographs from the shoot. They are simply to tide you over while I work on the rest of the set – some of the cast and crew are getting ansty!

I can’t say I’ve enjoyed working on another set of photos as much as these (no offense, various wedding clients, but this is seriously amazing). However, a 1930s wedding shot in this style would probably be the highlight of my career.

On set for Lady Gray - Photo taken by Travis Bartlett

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to thank all of you for your support – we got it done, and the pictures are amazing! We have a good week or two of editing ahead of us before we have a final set, but I can say that the one’s I’ve seen are spectacular. You all pitched in and made some sacrifices (especially our poor, freezing pinup girl), and we can’t tell you how thankful we are.

For the next few days, I’ll be posting some of the production photos and videos that Travis and Kim took while we were shooting scenes on location.

This is what a cast of nonsmokers looks like

I don’t smoke. I’ve never smoked. I’ve never bought cigarettes before. I’ve never needed an “ash tray.”

Tonight, I lit up six cigarettes simultaneously and let them burn out. Unfortunately, now I smell like tobacco, but it should clean out of my fingernails. Right?

Univex P-8 Projector - Busted Gearbox

This is the downside to buying antique machinery off of ebay.

Take a look at that photo and the detail shot below. Those gears on my new Univex P-8 Projector (1930s model 8mm projector) have been ground to dust. It looks like they seized a long time ago and someone forced it to run anyway. Somewhere in Fort Collins, I’m going to need to find some parts for this thing. The machine appears to run well otherwise, but I noticed a bit of excessive tension on the film and didn’t want to destroy the antique film footage that came with it, so I took the whole thing apart and found this.

In this photo, I'm bending a bracket back up so the carriage can move freely rather than catching halfway through the page and dragging.

I’m going to do a much longer how-to post following this with photographs for people who are curious, since I found almost no information online about how to do this with any photographic guide.

A location in town we are considering for the shoot.

This is just a short post to say that we were out and about in Fort Collins today searching for our street/alley scene location. It was a success! We have several locations to choose from that will look great. Tomorrow, we will be off in Greeley checking out our bar and newspaper office locations. Wish us luck!

It’s that time of year; the semester is over, I’ve graded my students’ finals, and there’s a brief break between the fall and spring terms. It’s time to kick Lady Gray into high gear.
